Dream Diary: March 1997

March 3/4 (Color)

I went to a strip mall. It was a very long row of stores with two rows of diagonal parking lots parallel to the stores. I parked my car and entered one of the stores. It was midday. Somehow, time went by almost instantaneously and it was getting dark very quickly. I left the store and was surprised to see that the parking lot was completely empty. So I decided to take a walk to the local police station, which I figured was just past the next junction across the main street. Along the way, I woke up.

March 6/7 (Black and White)

I was waiting for the subway. The train must have really been late because the queue went all the way upstairs and out the street. Another peculiar thing was the subway entrance was above street level, so you had to go upstairs into the building and downstairs again. I was standing on the portion of the stairs that was heading upwards. Then the lady in front of me whipped out a sheet of paper, started drawing funny little cartoons, and showing them to everyone. The guy behind me brought out a Magna Doodle and started drawing too. There were two pens so I took one of them and drew a little alien being with enormous eyes. The lady and the Magna Doodle guy thought it was good.

I was taking a walk in the woods with a friend and he was showing me where he usually went. We reached a clearing and there was a red fox waiting there. He started talking to the fox and surprisingly, it responded in perfectly clear English. It wanted to show us something and asked us to follow it and so we did. The three of us came to another clearing by a river and right there was a yellow fox, a most unusual creature. It had yellow fur from the top of its head, all over its back, and over the top of its tail. The rest of its fur was grey. The yellow fox turned and grinned, and then I woke up.

March 22/23 (Faint Color)

I was at a fancy 30s or 40s style party. Everyone was in formal evening wear. Morton, the anthro fox character from my comic strip, was there! He was standing on a chair. John F. Kennedy was present too although when I looked at him, it looked rather like a scene from a silent movie. Now every time someone entered the room, Morton would yell "Good Day!" All the other guests chimed in half-heartedly too. He explained that he would yell "Good Day" three times to each guest that arrived. I pointed out that he'd have to do that sixty times in the past two minutes then. For a moment, he looked shocked with his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. Then he excused himself. In his absence, all the other guests continued mumbling robotlike good days to arriving guests.

March 29/30 (Black and White)

I was in the kitchen. All the lights were off. By the window, I saw a thin-necked glass vase illuminated by the moonlight. It was perched precariously on a pot that was lying on its side. I reached out and managed to grab the vase by its neck before it fell. Unfortunately, I lost control of my arm for a moment (a little spasm) and chipped the mouth of the vase against the cupboard.

I found myself lying on a bed in a strange room. I looked first at one of the walls and then at one corner of the ceiling. The room looked distorted because the corner looked several times further than the wall. Then I woke up. (Normally, I have this kind of experience when I have a high fever. The fever alters my perception of distance.)
