Dream Diary: August 1996

August 14/15 (Black and White)

This is another in the recurring back-to-high-school dreams that I have had. This time, school was just across the street and looked more like a church than the high school I attended. In the dream, I was worried because I had forgotten my homework. (That's a strange thing to be worried about since home was just across the street.)

I'll freely admit that I was a somewhat insecure teen when I was in high school, although I'm surprised I'm still having these dreams even now. I must be missing closure on a past event.

I was in a large hall with lots of other people milling around as though it was a party or gathering. I was holding what appeared to be an automobile license plate. I recognized the design as similar to a New York State plate except the Statue of Liberty logo was missing. Also, the plate had ten letters and numbers instead of the normal six. The letters and numbers formed no discernable word or phrase.

I walked around showing that license plate to everyone. In the dream, I was very proud and happy for some unfathomable reason. Can't help feeling that there is some symbolism here that I am not getting.

August 18 morning (Faint Color)

This is a furry dream! (Unusual, since I do not consider myself too deeply involved with the fandom.) I was waiting for an evaluation copy of Microsoft Frontpage to download, (about ten megabytes) and I decided to lie down for a little while. Naturally, I fell asleep.

I found myself in a whitewashed room. A large humanoid rat wearing what looked like ceremonial robes instructed me to settle a dispute between two furries and pointed me to them. So I went to the side of the room he indicated, and I saw an anthro fox and an anthro wolf arguing vehemently. Magically, I found myself holding a pen and a sheet of paper. I sat down on the floor, half kneeling, and started to draw. I didn't quite finish the heads when I woke up.

August 18/19 (Black and White)

I think this is a bad dream. This is also one of the few dreams where I had full feeling in my limbs instead of a dreamlike dullness. I dreamt that I was lying in bed with a little trouble sleeping. In my dream, I was sleeping very lightly and waking every few minutes short of breath. Eventually, I could no longer return to sleep.

Then I saw a strange white light come in through the window. Where the light illuminated the wall, I saw some rapidly moving shadows. I could hear the whirring sound of a movie projector. I could also hear a few voices speaking incoherently in the background. Then I found that I could control the shadows on the wall by moving my feet and I tried to create a Punch and Judy-like show. I woke up and found my heart beating very rapidly.

August 24/25 (Black and White)

In this dream, I was watching television. Suddenly, the room became very dark. The image of a multi-story building bathed in a dim twilight light appeared on the screen. It looked like a shot from the opening sequence of the Equalizer. The camera zoomed in towards one of the many dark windows of the building. A loud TV announcer voice boomed, "Damage!" Then I woke up.

The colors in this dream looked a little strange and somewhat unreal. The grass, for example, was an unnaturally bright shade of green. If you've seen the show VR5, you'll know what I mean. I can only remember a brief scene from this dream. I think it was much, much longer but mostly uneventful.

I was walking with a friend and a huge St. Bernard alongside a building. We went round a corner and I saw a dog sitting on a wicker chair. It looked like a golden retriever except that it had copper-colored fur. The three of us approached the dog in the chair. When we were about three feet away from that dog, I said to it, "Let's go." The dog looked at me and said, "I'd rather stay here." The funny thing is the dog's lips did not move at all. It was as though I had read the dog's thoughts. I then hugged the dog. My friend did the same. The St. Bernard wasn't physically capable of doing the same. Then the three of us, my friend, the St. Bernard, and I, walked slowly away while the dog remained seated on the wicker chair.

This dream was a quickie. I was seated. Someone approached me and said, "Your program should scan all drives for (something or other) file and run it." Then I looked at what I was doing. Wouldn't you know it, I wasn't programming a computer. I was sewing with a sewing machine! (For the sake of completeness, let me mention here that the item I was sewing looked like the torso of a brown and white fursuit.)
